The Buellton Rotary Club hosts the "Central Coaster", a weekend car event, patterned after the infamous Reno Hot August Nights.
The "Coaster" is open to all types of specialty vehicles; hot rods, customs, muscle cars, trucks, motorcycles, sport cars, antiques, and others considered special-interest or collectible. The event motto is, "If it makes noise, vibrates and has a potential to leak oil....we love it!" This wide open approach, combined with the variety of events scheduled, virtually assure the participants, and spectators alike, of a fun filled weekend. Local businesses, particularly those that are automotive related provide open house opportunities for the registered participants throughout the weekend.
The Marriott Hotel is event headquarters. Olivera's Auto Repair and Towing is converted to a 50's era 'hot rod hangout' and photo op, with period correct gas pumps and signage, and an antique tow truck. Ellen's Cafe is converted to "Hot Rod Cafe", with menus reflecting the choices of the 50's and 60's, and waitresses in poodle skirts and old school make-up.
The Saturday non-judged car show on Buellton's famous Avenue of the Flags anchors the three-day celebration. Classic activities such as the Saturday car show and afternoon cruise (open headers OK), and Sunday 'Poker Run', are contrasted with more creative events such as the 'Gravity Drags', a soap box derby for adults.
First 50 paid registrations receive a gift (see website for details), and each entry is eliglible to win one of three $250 cash prizes.
