Mario's Oyster Bay Car Show May 28, 2024

1957 Chevy Custom

Our first of the season Cruise Night opened Tuesday night in our quaint little town of Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY.

Main Street was closed to traffic and the Classic Cars started rolling in to the cheers of the spectators.

The Rock Band was jumping, playing those Oldies But Goodies and people were dancing in the street.

The shops were open along Main Street for food and drinks, and everyone had a great time, young and old.

I went with my brother John’s 1968 Corvette Convertible. The weather was beautiful so we had the top down. It was a fun-filled evening with lots of exotic cars showing up.

Our first of the season Car Show in Oyster Bay, NY. It was a fabulous night with many great classic cars and a band playing those oldies.

I went with my brother John in his pristine 68 Corvette Convertible. I drove to the show with the top down and we had a blast.

Enjoy the show, Mario

Mario, we both did our first car shows of the year recently. Glad to see you and your brother enjoyed your first. My brother and I enjoyed our first as well. So many choices here but I think I will take the 57 Chevy Bel Air or the 70 Chevelle SS. Cheers my old car buddy.

It was great getting out to see a car show after the long winter we had George. And as you know to spend the day with your brother is priceless.

Driving his 68 Vette with no power steering is a challenge but I loved it! Top down and enjoying the ride. We got a lot of thumbs up on the way and at the show!

Can't wait to do it again as I know you too. Cheers my friend, Mario

Hey hey hey, looks like the good Lord smiled on Oyster Bay to bring out the rides and crowd. I love the look of the old towns with trees for shade and brick sidewalks. Reminds me of my hometown back in PA. Your brother's Vette looks nice.

That 52 Chopped Convertible Caddy has an eye catching look and paint. Never really seen many chopped verts in my days. But if it can be thought of, most likely it shall be done.

Designers have shown and proven that to us time after time. I just rewatched the video on the Mercury Cruiser Concept car that had over 50 options on it.

Well like the rivers that rarely flow here in AZ, my chances at car shows have also evaporated unless I want to drive the 4 to 6 hours to the northern parts of AZ like Flagstaff.

I hope you didn't get spoiled driving your brother's Vette. I mean they are addictive. So watch you don't get STUNG by the STING RAY.

Rob

Oh yes Rob I am spoiled driving my brother's 68 Vette! Lots of HP and I love the 4 speed. Reminds me of my 69 Camaro SS350 4 speed with all that power!

I love my little town Oyster Bay tucked away on Long Island's Gold Coast! I never thought I would live here some day.

The cars at the show were pristine and I love that they close off Main Street for the car show.

Spectators young and old walking the street looking at all the cars is so New Englandish.

It was great being with my younger brother John and telling him all the car makes and years. He's the youngest of 5 brothers and sisters and is also my Godson.

Thank you for your comments Rob and there will be many more car shows that I will post this year. Cheers my friend, Mario

AHHHHHHHHHH HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I thought so, but at my age, I'm never sure if I missed seeing them, or remembering them. Both things are a challenge.

SO I have a new car show via Oyster Bay to look at and study today. Cool!! Which it is NOT here in AZ. This tour is called Oyster Bay Part DEUX.

Adding pics is okay, just don't be taking them away. Cars like great people, the more the merrier.

Have an awesome weekend. I'm taking the Nova out for a shakedown run while it's still cool this morning. Lord be with me..............and with you.

Ask Georget signs off, CHEERS!!!

PS: I must be allergic to that 55 CHEBBIE......I can't seem to control my drooling when I stare at it. It's a condition I won't need to see my doctor about.

That 55 Chevy sure is a beauty Rob. Next time I see it again I'll take more pictures of it.

And don't worry about my deleting any pictures, I won't do that.

I know you wouldn't take photos away....you get as much enjoyment out of sharing them as I do reviewing them.

I do find it funny that the pic of the 2021 Corvette and the Red Ferrari under it, look at the similarity. I won't buy either one since I wouldn't want to come out from a store and not know which one is mine, and take the wrong one home. That's my reason and I'm sticking to it.

It is a confirmation of how technology now drives design instead of vice versa.

I noticed that too on the Corvette and Ferrari. Do you think the Corvette styled its car after the Ferrari as a poor boy's Ferrari? Amazing how they look alike. Good eye Rob!

Mario,

I think it's a love/hate relationship. They can't stand the other, yet can't live without the other. They get their energy from each other in a sort of symbiotic relationship. One always wanting and trying to outdo the other. They say hate can be a very inspiring emotion. Hate will absorb all your energy when one focuses on the enemy. You never want to kill the enemy, just outsmart them. For without the enemy, you have no will to live anymore. It's car wars in corporate business driven minds.

Some call it competition, but there's healthy competition and then there's what I described above.

It boils down to obsession, with each other, and the sad point is, competition can drive styling to new heights, but when they both reach the same pinnacle as seen in the cars nearly identical appearances, it's the chicken and the egg syndrome, which car came first????

Zora's hate for Ferrari flows in the veins on the GM designers but sadly, GM is the last one to the party and the Corvette will be judged against the Ferrari, and the only claim to fame is, the Corvette is cheaper. A word that is unknown in the Ferrari vernacular.

You can't afford a Rolex, buy a knockoff, or buy a Timex. But the car lovers and owners inside already know...what the gold ring is. And sadly, it's not the Corvette. It's close but it is seen as a knockoff.

If you want to test the theory, put both cars in front of a true car lover and tell them they can have either one FREE. No strings attached.

Which would you choose???????

Post Script: Look how many C8's are for sale, and how the prices keep dropping. Look at Ferraris and watch their resale value climb and the rare opportunity to own one.

Sorry GM. You're too late to the party. Turn out the lights, the party is over.

POST SCRIPT PART DEUX: GM betrayed the Corvette loyalists with the C8. Few clamored for a mid -engine design. C7's now bring more than C8s.

The true Corvette Lovers have spoken. And now GM's taking the Corvette to electric...you'd think they'd learn.

I could be ALL WRONG here, this is only my insight into what is and was AMERICAS GREATEST SPORTSCAR.

Mario on Jun 1, 2024 said:

That is one of the greatest summations I have heard regarding GM's mid engine Corvette and the Ferrari Rob. Ferrari is like the Rolex, an original. The C8 Corvette is a knock off, I agree.

When my brother John told me he was looking to buy a new Corvette I told him why? Buy a classic Corvette which will appreciate in value over the C8. He listened and got the 68 Convertible for a fraction of the price of a new one and will only go up in value.

Yes the Ferrari is the King in my opinion. Sleek, Italian, powerful and if you can afford it great. But it's a racing machine that needs a lot of attention (and money) and not for everyone.

Thanks for your insights Rob, you nailed it!

You are right Mario, the Ferrari and Corvette are totally separate as far as their heritage. Just the same as Carrol Shelby created the GT40 for Lemans to wipe the smarmy look off Ferraris face.

Cobras and Corvettes had their lineage here in the states, not in Europe and did well staying true to their roots.

But now, with our GLOBAL MARKETS, the bullseye has moved from US, to other markets. We are left searching for American Roots, in foreign soils. We are not the target audience for design, engineering, sales and loyalty anymore. All we are is customers. Not a family which has been broken up thanks to political agendas.

Hard to believe it even affects things like cars now. But count the number of foreign brands you pass while our loyalty to brands is no longer rewarded.

The opposite of PROgress.... is CONgress. And that is where the problem started many moons ago.

Have an awesome day and enjoy what you have today for tomorrow it may be gone or illegal.
