Mario's Tribute to the 1959 Chevrolet.

The American auto industry had a fantastic sales year in 1959 with total sales of 5,929,252. A total of 58 million cars were produced during the 1950s.

The 1959 model year ended with Chevy sales of 1,462,140 units for number 1 and Ford with 1,450,953 for number 2. Plymouth was a far 3rd with only 458,261.

Many consumers had a mixed reaction to the 1959 Chevrolet. Most of the criticism was directed at the rear end design with the cats-eye taillights and large horizontal fins. But it squeaked out 1st place over Ford.

In 1959 Life Magazine published an issue dedicated to the Building of the 1959 Chevrolet. I posted many of the Life Magazine pictures on this page.

This is my Tribute to the Fabulous 1959 Chevrolet. Enjoy! Mario.

Chevrolet was back in 1959 and with a vengeance. Sales were up almost 30% over 1958.

This is my Tribute to the 1959 Chevrolet one of my all time favorite models. Enjoy, Mario

I find it odd that so many 59s were built and yet when I go to a car show, I see a lot of tri-fives, but very few 59s.

I see a fair amount of 1959 Chevys, mostly Impalas at car shows. No more or less than any other car.

I rarely see any 1959 Fords though. Even though they built almost the same quantities.

I like the El Camino in pic 25/26. Those colors look very nice. Not crazy about the wheels..but to each their own........

I love the 4 headlight, two-tone paint Corvette. And I agree with Rob about the El Camino color scheme, and the roof looks really cool in the back. I like the cats-eye taillights and large horizontal fins meeting in the center. Great job Mario! And you look quite grown up in picture 50!

Thanks Brandon for your observations and comments on my Page. I agree the Corvette is a beauty as well as the El Camino. Styling was everything back then.

In Picture 50 I was only 12 years old but itching to drive my Fathers new 59 Chevy Wagon! I already had the "Car Bug" and it never went away! Which is why I'm constantly on your AT website. Cheers, Mario
