Smithaven Mall Car Show, Lake Grove, NY Oct 25, 2025

1969 Pontiac GTO The Judge

The Smithaven Mall Car Show was held on Saturday October 25, 2025, in Lake Grove, NY.

There were many classic, muscle and antique cars on display including a First Year 1969 Pontiac GTO “The Judge”. My cover picture.

The GTO Judge was inspired by a popular skit from the TV show “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh In” which featured Sammy Davis Jr humorously portraying a Judge. Pontiac only produced a total of 11,166 cars for model years 1969 to 1971. A rare car today.

This is another Bonus car show as the season is quickly winding down.

Enjoy the show! Mario.

Hey look who it is, glad you got out for yet another car show. I was and still am a GTO Judge fan. I love how the car looks ORANGE yet they call that color Carousel RED??????????? I had a friend in high school that had the rare Pontiac T-37. It's the budget minded GTO with a 350 etc. Then the guy up the street owned a 1969 Verdero Green with white convertible top and white interior. Wow...that GTO popped.

I only owned one GTO, a 1970, which I made the mistake of buying sight unseen. I was told I trust too many people. I'm working on that.

It was the dark green with the saddle interior. But the body wasn't the best. I bought it out of GA. I bought it on EBay and needed to use their services to get the title. It seems the seller purchased a whole salvage yard of cars and he did NOT want to pay the GA taxes as the cars were still in Alabama. EBay surprised me and hired a lawyer to get me a certified title from the AL DMV and the seller from what I gathered had to do some time at the GRAYBAR HOTEL. Serves him right.

That was just part of the sad story of my only early model GTO. I sold it, and a father and his son came to inspect and drive it. They gave me a deposit. I got a call the next day the son would pick up the car with the rest of the Benjamins.

He paid me and took off smoking the rear tires as he left.

I get a call from the father later as to why I sold him the car with a broken transmission.

So I patiently explained the departure of his son in a cloud of smoke and slamming the 4 speed to get it to bark in higher gears.

Thankfully his father believed me over his son's rendering of events on the way home.

That GTO was my first teardown of a GTO 400 to replace the rope seal on the rear main. It was leaking like a screen door on a submarine.

So I got a few educations from that GTO.

Thanks for the OLDS inclusions. Nice looking rides but a bit anemic on the ponies. Loved the Hurst Lightning Rod Shifter.

I give the prize to the Judge GTO. That's how I "JUDGED" it. Pun intended.

Keep up the march to 300 Mario. Thanks again for all your contributions.

Rob

Another interesting story Rob on your encounter with the GTO. You have a good story for every make car! Sad what the kid did to your 70 GTO but glad it worked out for you.

My friend Mike had a 1964 GTO Convertible in red with black interior/top. It had the original 389 with Tri Power and she moved! He was the King on Hempstead Turnpike which is the Main Street in Levittown, Long Island. No one could touch him off the line at a red light to the next traffic light.

Good times and good stories. Cheers, Mario.
