The 1962 Ford Cougar 406 was a Concept Car designed by custom car builder Dean Jeffries in collaboration with Ford Motors to push the boundaries of automotive design. In my opinion it was a fine automobile years ahead of its time.
With its Gull Wing Doors top hinged, electrically operated, comfort-engineered bucket seats recessed into the body and the big block 406 cubic inch V8 this car definitely pushed the boundaries. It had an aerodynamic design, concealed headlights in the tips of the front fenders and finned stop lights in the rear.
The Cougar 406 was introduced at the 1962 Chicago Auto Show and was very popular. It was then commissioned to appear in the 1963 movie “Under the Yum Yum Tree”. The movie starred Jack Lemmon, Carol Lynley, Dean Jones, Edie Adams, Imogene Coca, Paul Lynde and Robert Lansing. George Barris was commissioned to paint the car Candy Apple Red for the movie. The original paint color was Sapphire Blue.
The Gull Wing Cougar 406 then went on to appear in the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. It was shown in the Cavalcade of Custom Cars Exhibit which was held in the Transportation & Travel Pavilion alongside many other Custom and Concept Cars.
Unfortunately, the car went missing for decades but it is believed to still exist in Detroit, Michigan and owned by Joe Moridian, unrestored as of 2013. Enjoy the show, Mario

The 1962 Ford Cougar 406 is a very classy and futuristic aerodynamic car. I am glad to find out it wasn't destroyed like so many others of the original Concept Cars.
From the picture I posted it is in dire need of being restored and I hope the owner or someone else will take on the task to preserve the history of the Unique 1962 Cougar 406. Enjoy, Mario.
