Dashes of Yesteryear

Dashboard of a 1961 Chevrolet Impala

Many people have suggested that I make a game identifying steering wheels and dashes. My Dad thought that it would be too hard, because people know only the dashes of cars that they've driven. What do you think?

So maybe instead of a game, I thought it would be cool to assemble all the dash photos I have and organize them by year and make. That way you can see how dashes have evolved though the years and have fun looking up cars you used to drive.

If you have a dash photo you'd like to contribute, please add it to the collection.

Pre 50's dashes I think would be too hard, except some iconic ones. 50 and up might make a game though.

your first idea was the best,I and all my old car people would rather guess the dashes, if folks claim they dig old cars it should not be a problem. great Idea though. Dirty_Don

I think "name that dash" would be fun and educational to car folks.

FOR SOME REASON, DASH BOARDS OF OLD CARS BRING UP MORE MEMORIES THAN ANY OTHER FEATURE

Happy to give it a try. No doubt tougher than the full vehicle quiz....

Great site! I'm old enough to recognize most of the cars, not too old yet to forget them.

Too tough for me. In the 50's and early 60's, I usually had to sit in a back seat, so I didn't get to study the dashboards much.

Great idea about the dashboards/IP's....can't wait to see and play!

How about some trivia as well like the fact the 59 & 60 Buicks had mirrors to reflect the speedometer readings making it adjustable for the drivers line of site?

I agree with your dad. I saw the exteriors of most every make and model in the '50s and '60s, but saw the interiors only of the relatively few cars in which I ever rode back then. However a photo collection by model year would be very interesting!

Go for it. I think it would be a real challenge. Most everyone saw the outside but the inside would test for everyone. The independents would be the hardest. Bring it on.

I knew all the cars from the exterior 'cause I was a car guy but couldn't afford more than one car during my youth so I never really had much of a chance to memorize the interiors. So making a game of dashes would be too hard for me.

Dash's would make believers out of some that think they know the early pieces. I know I would not be able to get many as my interests were mainly under the hood..... the interiors always took "Back Seat" to getting on the road.

Front Grill work would be harder to identify for most. Not for me.

Dashes and steering wheel would be difficult for the reason that we mostly see and identify old cars from outside; the body, style.
