Mario's Visit to Howard Kroplick's Car Collection Show Nov 19, 2025

1948 Tucker S/N 1044

My brother John and I were privileged to be invited by Howard Kroplick for a personal tour of his Fabulous “Waterfront at Roslyn’s Garage” where he stores and exhibits his prized collection of Exotic and Classic Cars.

On Wednesday, Nov 19, 2025, my brother John and I rode in his 1968 Corvette Convertible to Roslyn, NY to meet with Howard and see his car collection. We spent most of the day with Howard and his assistant Greg Oreiro as they discussed each car. I took many pictures of the car tour for this Page, and I also added other pictures of his cars from various sites.

Seeing Howard's celebrated 1948 Tucker Torpedo S/N 1044 up close is a memorable experience for me. It is considered the most awarded and accurate Tucker in the world. This car was restored by Preston Tucker’s Great Grandsons: twins Sean and Mike Tucker using Preston’s documentation making this a perfect car. There were only 50 Production cars and 1 Prototype produced. This was the 44th Tucker made.

Besides Howard’s 1948 Tucker the rest of his collection includes: 1909 ALCO Black Beast Racer, 1930 Duesenberg J Murphy Sedan Convertible Berline, 1937 Walter P. Chrysler's Chrysler LeBaron, 1962 Holman Moody Challenger III, 1963 Mustang III Concept Show Car, 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350-H, 1984 Tritan A2 Aerocar and 2006 Shelby Mustang GT-H.

Enjoy the tour of Howard Kroplick’s “Waterfront at Roslyn’s Garage” Car Collection. Happy Motoring, Mario

1 Howard Kroplick owner of the 1948 Tucker SN 1044 and many other vintage cars that you will see on my private tour of his collection.

2 1948 Tucker 1044 Restored by the Tucker Family and considered the most awarded and accurate Tucker in the world. There were only 50 Production cars and 1 Prototype produced.

3 The Famous Tucker Cyclops Eye. One of the most memorable, short-lived and stylish models in automotive history. The Middle headlight moved left right when the steering wheel moved.

4 Beautiful original Tucker Hood Ornament.

5 My brother John checking out the Tucker interior.

6 With its rear engine and front trunk, the Tucker was certainly different. Original custom leather luggage shown here, a Tucker optional accessory.

7 Another view of the custom leather luggage.

8 Tucker instrument cluster and switches shoe-boxed behind the steering wheel.

9 The interior was different with the instrument cluster and switches behind the steering wheel, making for a unique design.

10 The dashboard is unique because the Instruments are to the left. To the right side was called the “crash zone”. This is an area where you could dive into if you were in an accident for safety. It must have worked because no one ever died in a Tucker accident.

11 Original color for S/N 1044 is Andante Green. Howard revived the green color during restoration. The car was painted brown when he found it.

12 The Official Tucker Coat of Arms Crest Medallion on the trunk.

13 The Tucker had a 6-cylinder 335ci 166hp helicopter engine in the rear. The trunk was in the front and Preston Tucker promoted it as the first new car in 50 years.

14 1948 Tucker 1044 Highlights.

16 1948 Tucker 1044 Won at Pebble Beach in 2018 and has won 5 Best In Shows.

17 The car was restored by the great-grandsons of Preston Tucker, Mike and Sean Tucker. This car was extremely well documented when restored.

18 To the right of the instrument cluster was called the “crash zone”. This is an area that if you were in an accident you could dive into it for safety.

19 With its rear engine and front trunk, the Tucker was certainly different. An accessory was custom leather luggage shown here fitted to the front trunk.

20 Tucker instrument cluster and switches shoe-boxed behind the steering wheel making for an unusually spacious area on the passenger side.

21 Tucker rear engine 335 cu in horizontally opposed flat-six engine 166 hp.

22 Tuckers are rarely seen at car shows. Many are owned by museums and unfortunately, they sit stagnant. There are only about 10 of the Tuckers that actually run including this one.

23 How many other cars have ever had a motion picture recount their development as the 1988 movie “Tucker The Man and His Dream” starring Jeff Bridges.

24 Howard Kroplick and his 1948 Tucker 1044 considered the most awarded and accurate Tucker in the world. A True Diamond of Exotic Vintage cars. This Tucker is in good hands with Howard Kroplick. His love of the car was evident to me in his showing.

43 The straight-eight engine displaces 323.5 cubic inches (5.3 Liters) and produces 130 horsepower.

44 Straight 8 engine another angle.

45 Beautifully detailed Chauffeur interior and flush mounted controls.

46 At one time there was a ferry from Oyster Bay, Long Island to Stamford CT that crossed the Long Island Sound. This was news to me as I live in Oyster Bay. This is an original sign. Howard is also the Historian for the North Hempstead Township as well as for Roslyn NY and he is very knowledgeable.

47 Howard Kroplick with his 1909 ALCO-6 Racer Black Beast which won first place in the 1909 and 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Races on Long Island. He is author of the book “Vanderbilt Cup Races of Long Island”. Howard graciously autographed my copy of the book. Thank you, Howard.

48 The 1909 ALCO participated in the first Indianapolis 500 race in 1911 and finished 33rd. There were a total of 1000 ALCO cars and trucks built, and this is only 1 of 12 race cars that exist today.

49 Behind the Wheel Driver's view. Wheelbase 134 inches. Curb weight 3,306 pounds. An incredible Racing Machine from 1909 was restored and cared for by Howard and his crew.

50 One of the first 6-cylinder race cars. The Engine is an ALCO T-head straight-six displacing 11.16 liters or 680.6 cubic inches attaining 100 HP. A huge engine for its time with a lot of horsepower for 1909.

What a great day my brother John and I had visiting Howard Kroplick's Waterfront working Museum of fine automobiles. The two stars of the exhibition in my opinion are the Tucker 1044 and the 1930 Duesy! What incredibly fine machines in all their glory.

The 1909 ALCO race car is also at the top of my list. The star of the Vanderbilt Races on Long Island. Built by the American Locomotive Company back in 1909 hence the name ALCO.

Thank you again Howard for your gracious invite and personal tour. I will always remember this day and have documented it as best as I could on this website American Torque for all to see. Mario

Wow tie my feet and call me a dogie, that's a calf with it's feet tied. My MY MY Mario, knowing your personality that just rubbing elbows with the elite of the elite will not change you one bit.

I'm glad your brother got invited and couldn't find anyone to go with him so he settled...and may God Bless him for that act of charity.

What a rare and unique collection of rarities. That Holman Moody car, I didn't know existed until a few weeks ago when it came up on my You Tube.

It almost loked like the Ford Torino Talledaga that ran the hogh ovals. And having built a model of the the Mustang III while in my youth, that struck a bell in the gray matter.

I recall and maybe I mentioned it before, at 16 years old I tried to get my local Ford dealer to rent me one of the Mustangs for a day or weekend. I guess with my Clearasil needing face he looked at me and todl me to come back when I'm 18.

I sure was looking forward to being able to pick up girls that usually turned their heads when they saw me coming.

And that Domino's ride, can I say "FAR OUT!!"

Thanks to John for taking you along. I hope you chipped in for gas, maybe food and gave him a tip.

John was so considerate to pretend you got the invite be we all know. What a brother!!! Any one who owns a Corvette is a good soul in my book.

Thanks for the unique and special look at a different genre of cars. From mild to wild.

I sent my number to John if next time he gets a special invite, well....you will understand when I tell you, you had your once in a lifetime experience. Don't be greedy. And don't be needy.

Oh look, Jay Leno is calling me, he wants me to come see his collection and bring a friend. Wow, John and I are going to have such a blast with thtat all expense paid tour of Leno's.

Hope you had as good as Thanksgiving as you did the car collection.

My appreciation to you both. My brother was happy I was an only child. God bless...stay well and CHEERS.

It was a great day spending with my brother John and riding out there in his 68 Vette Convertible. It was a nice day so we had the top down and I took my hat off so I wouldn't lose it. John looked at me while driving and said people might think you're Jay Leno with the full head of white hair! I laughed and said you're probably right and they may want my autograph! We had a good time together.

I never knew there was a Holman Moody Challenger III race car either. It is a chopped and channeled race bred Ford Falcon that fought Ferrari before the GT40.

It was hard to see it because it was on a lift over the 1909 ALCO, another very interesting race car. Howard rode in the ALCO around the Indy 500 track in 2011 on its 100th Anniversary at 68 mph!

He was so happy there were no mechanical failures in front of a huge crowd! He and his wife located the ALCO in Belgium and they flew out there to buy it.

It's special to Howard because the ALCO won the 1909 and 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Races held on Long Island. Howard wrote a book on the Vanderbilt Cup Races. I have a copy and he was gracious to autograph it for me!

The Domino's pizza rocket car is a big draw for the kids. Howard said it was the least expensive in his collection and draws all the kids more than the other cars!

I absolutely LOVE the 1930 Duesy up close. What an incredibly huge and luxurious automobile. It won 2nd place in class at Pebble Beach in August this year but I think it should have taken 1st. I cannot imagine another Duesenberg better than this one. The car and engine were immaculate. Can you imagine all the past owners of this fine car?

But my real treat was seeing the 1948 Tucker SN 1044. It is surely a car of the future from 1948 with all the styling and advancements. Too bad Preston Tucker couldn't make a go of it with this car. Howard bought the car and had the Tucker family restore it to original including the paint color. When he found the car it was painted brown and later found out it was originally green. Thanks for your comments Rob. Cheers, Mario

Funny you mentioned the dragstrip named Islip. It's because it's in the town of Islip. But I never thought about it being called I- Slip! Pretty funny! Cheers, Mario
